I have a B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. in French from Middlebury College, and a Ph.D. in French from Duke University. In other words, I love languages! As soon as I finished graduate school, I picked up and moved to France. I couldn’t wait. I enjoyed living in France for 13 years before returning home to the U.S. to live in sunny California.

Since I speak French fluently, I am able to communicate with my students and their families in English or French. During my 20 years of teaching, I’ve taught in classrooms, as well as online with individual students. I’ve found the latter to be so enriching, as it allows me to get to know each student and his or her needs very well. Seeing those I work with achieve their English-speaking dreams is the most rewarding part of what I do.

In my free time, I love to take long walks outdoors, read, learn movie theme songs on the piano, (“The Gladiator,” “Lion King,” and “August Rush” are a few examples), and cook and bake.

Another little-known fact about me is that I lived in Sub-Saharan Africa for a year on a Fulbright-Hays scholarship. Getting to know a number of cultures firsthand has really helped me to become a more open-minded teacher, and has also given me a love of African dishes such as ceebu jin and yassa, as well as African dance.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

Meg
